Welcome. Why share?

I have always been extremely wary of sharing too much of myself online. The internet is a scary place full of unknowns and ill-intentioned people, after all.

But I am also a person that wants to try everything. Always pushing and pulling, ebbing and flowing. I embody a certain duality where one part of me wishes to hide in the safety of anonymity, and the other feels a pull to express myself to the outside world and to find connection. I suspect this is a very human response.

At times, a thought flutters across my mind - if I die tomorrow, would I be satisfied?

The answer is no. And not just because I obviously don’t want to die tomorrow, as I’m sure most people feel. But because I have a desire to share my thoughts, stories and creations. Things that have been kicking around my head for a long time - years even. Things I have just kept to myself. Things that would die with me if I don’t share them.

I suppose in some sense we all have a subconscious primal urge to leave something of ourselves behind, whether that’s through bloodlines, stories, or perhaps having our names splashed across buildings. Whatever floats your boat.

Creative expression can be therapeutic and I seem to have denied this of myself for too long. I hope through whatever I create or share, it’ll either help someone, be a moment of reflection, a moment of joy, or a moment of empathy (something we could use far more of in this world).

I believe everyone can do something to move the dial forward on making society just a wee bit better. Whether that’s changing our attitudes and actions towards the environment or stamping out sexism and racism. I’m hoping (in the long run), I can contribute to this, even a bit, through stories.

So here’s an attempt to do that. Of sorts. At least a declaration of it. And hopefully that’ll help me stay motivated. I may share some life musings, societal observations, or wistful memories of when we used to be able to go places. Or maybe I’ll write a post about cookies and it’ll make you happy. Whatever it is, I hope you enjoy yourself here, learn something new, or contemplate another point of view.

Thanks for stopping by.
